So, what am I doing for now you may ask. Well, I am going to continue to write about what I am going through, posting it here. This, I hope will encourage others who are going through something similar to keep going no matter what challenges may lay ahead.
For me, each and everyday is a struggle, I now need a walking stick to help me walk and to help lessen the pain when trying to stand up. All the medications make me drowsy, I feel like I am in some sort of a daze and my vision most of the time is a little blurry. The pain is constant and each time I move it makes it worse. Stairs, now become a challenge and take a lot of concentration just so that I don’t fall. Lucky for us, we built a lowest house and only have one step to worry about.
But with the love and support of my family, friends and God, I can be strong. I believe that God, while it may seem sometimes that it doesn’t make any sense, is allowing me to go through this pain and suffering so that I am able to share with others, so as to help them through the tough times.
Each day I try to not think about what I can no longer do, like drive a car, mow the lawn, waterski, even say do tenpin bowling with my family, etc. But think about the things that I can still do, or even, things that I have never done before. I have always wanted to write a book or something, so I guess that writing this blog is near enough, for now at least.
One of my main goals, for now, is to never, never, be in a wheelchair. So, in aid to achieve this goal, I make sure that I get out of the house each day, even if its only to go up to the shopping centre. Even though it hurts each time I take a step and I am somewhat slower then even those who are much older than I, for me, this is a must.
Last weekend we went looking to buy me a new walking stick as “Fred”, as named by my wife and girls, showed signs of age. My brother in-law who is an OT (Occupational Therapist), suggested that we drop in at Walk On Wheels and see what they had to offer. We quickly found the new replacement, which once again has been named by my lovely wife, Michelle and is now known as “Arthur”. While there, we also looked at what may be a suitable motorised scooter, should the need arise later.
Well, another weekend is here and it’s time to spend this with my family and friends. Might even go to the shops, for something different………
